Colville Harbour Care Nursery History:
This was a community-led development project funded by three years of funding from Ministry for the Environment, with financial support from the World Wildlife Fund, Waikato Regional Council, DoC and Trees that Count/Project Crimson.
This important environmental project was guided by the CHC Steering Committee. A key legacy from this project was the development of the CHC Nursery. The nursery continues to provide eco-sourced plants to the community.

Tarairi (Beilschmiedia tarairi) - $30 each
This tree used to be very abundant in the northern Coromandel and is a great source of food for birds in the winter when not much else is available. They prefer to be planted where they can access some water and under some shade when they are young.
Kohekohe (Didymocheton spectabilis) -$30 each
This is a beautiful lush tree with sweet-scented, orchid-like flowers that grow straight from the trunk. The nectar is a favourite of Tui and Bellbird. Need some shade when young and protection from possum browsing.
Puriri (Vitex Lucens) - $30 each
This is a beautiful tree with small pink trumpet flowers. Grows better with some shade when young and is sensitive to frost.
Houpara (Pseudopanax lessonii cross) -
- $30 each
This hardy coastal tree can handle salt and wind. Pseudopanax regularly cross breed and the specimens we have look like they have crossed with a lancewood and have long, leathery leaves.
Turutu (Dianella nigra) - $10 each
Sometimes nicknamed NZ blueberry (berries not edible), this attractive herbaceous plant has bright blue berries and a flax-like growth habit but much smaller. Great in coastal areas, and, although it prefers some shade and free draining soil, it will also grow in dry, exposed
